What is the thread that runs through the collection that is my favorites? I don't know, I think I'm too close to see. Most of these works have rich saturated color, so that is one strand, but there must be others.
Sometimes it's very obvious that color attracts me, but other times it can be pure skill. Some of the drawings and paintings in the collection are there because I am totally impressed with a skill I don't have. The 3D work shown here is in the collection because I work with 3D modelling software and I know how much work went into that piece and how well-executed it is.
Other works appear because they reference other artists I am familiar with. The wonderfully life-like pencil drawings that are in the collection are there because I wish I could draw like that. I would think I had a real talent if I could, like playing the piano, or a cello, well, and with soul. The Swimmer Bombe is there because it reminds me vey much of a Pink Floyd album and the work of Storm Thorgerson (ironic as he died soon after this journal was published). The image I had in my collection and this feature originally turned out to be stolen from another dA member, so it was replaced by the original.
This time, apart from a token 3D work, and a couple of token photomanipulations, I have stuck with photographs for this small feature. I'm not sure why, maybe it is where my primary interest is right now. It just felt right tonight, like things do sometimes.
I need to pinch myself sometimes, we forget how lucky we are to have so much fine art presented on a daily basis from so many talented people. Thanks deviants
So here is a fairly random selection of twelve works that you could hopefully join with me in being amazed and pleased by...

The Gurindji people wanted their land back
On the 23rd August in 1966, the Gurindji people walked off Lord Vestey's Wave Hill station, the largest cattle ranch in the world at the time, over 5,000 sq miles. It was the start of the longest strike in Australia's history. The strike lasted 7 years.
It is very important, because, although the strike was initiated over wages, conditions and treatment of the aboriginal workers (According to a Northern Territory inquiry report in 1922 and talking about Vestey -'It was obvious that they had been ... quite ruthless in denying their Aboriginal labour proper access to basic human rights'), it became apparent that it was also about land rights
The Orchard
The Orchard are a local Australian band who purely THUMP. Lachlan, the drummer, is a friend and this live footage is from a gig they did last week. The track is from their new self-titled EP. Turn up the volume and enjoy.
None but ourselves can free our mind
:bulletwhite: Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our mind.
:bulletwhite: Open your eyes, look within. Are you satisfied with the life you're living?
:bulletwhite: The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.
Radical Wisdom
Sometimes you are lucky enough to come across something that makes profound sense. This talk by Ricardo Semler is one of those times. I can do no better than quote the blurb that goes along with the video.
"What if your job didn’t control your life? Brazilian CEO Ricardo Semler practices a radical form of corporate democracy, rethinking everything from board meetings to how workers report their vacation days (they don’t have to). It’s a vision that rewards the wisdom of workers, promotes work-life balance — and leads to some deep insight on what work, and life, is really all about. Bonus question: What if schools were
