The owl was one of the stock items in a challenge I participated in. I was not satisifed with my cutting and blending in my challenge submission, but really liked the bird, so spent some time with it to see if I could improve my results. The shadow is the result of a tricky thing I was taught with drop shadows and I am so glad that took the time to explain a little about her shadow methods here [link] . It is still not as natural as hers appear, but it is way better than my smudgy thumbprint thingy of the past.

Great shadow. that link doesn't seem to be working at the moment. I've read a couple of wonderful tuts on shadows lately that I'm attempting to put into practice. You're right, it is a beautiful bird.
I should add that my shadow here is still not right according to the light. The bird's legs are in brightlight and should be throwing a shadow on the ground in front if the rest of the shadow. Still, it is always the problems one sees after one has (seemingly) finished and uploaded.
